How it Began
From concept to manufacture, our very first product, PerkiDesk (above), has certainly come a long way.
In 2014, Ben Perkins, student of BA (Hons) 3D Design at Camberwell College of Arts, devised a plan to create a piece of furniture which was truly unique. He wanted to create a system that encouraged consumers to assemble their very own furniture instead of hiring professional furniture fitters to assemble their products; a system which is child-friendly too.
One of the main aspects of the project overall was to make homeowners lives easier through a simplistic, universal method of construction for space saving furniture.
Essentials For The Project
The initial specification requirements for the project itself were as follows:
•Must be user friendly
•Must be lightweight (easy to handle)
•Have the ability to adapt around small rooms in homes
•Must be adaptable to wall space e.g. fixed, leant against or stand freely
•Must have no sharp edges or small gaps
•Must be easy to store away and efficient to re-assemble
•Easy to configure fixing/mechanism
Our Plan For The Future
At Studio Perki, being a relatively new business, we are full of ambition. Ben Perkins, Founder/Creative Director of Studio Perki, is going to design a collection of furniture which corresponds with the consumers requirements for the domestic home. He plans to design and manufacture around 10-15 different products within the range itself; offering its potential customers the opportunity to improve their living space.
In terms of future plans for other projects, Ben has decided to work on a multi-functional space saving unit; which will hopefully be an innovative solution for the domestic home once again.
